The Princess Is Not Amused

The quilt pictured here is an original design that I made for the Leavenworth, WA Quilt Show that occurs this September.  The challenge was themed "Mountains of Quilting" and a challenge fabric was provided that had to be included in the body of the quilt.  The challenge fabric is used in the curtains and for three of the "quilts" piled on the princess' bed, as well as her pillows and the Frog Prince's lily pad.  The quilt is 20" X 26".

The fairy tale of the Princess and the Pea was a childhood favorite of mine and I have been wanting to do a quilt depicting the tale for a long while.  I've included some detail photos, as well, of the Frog Prince (a deliberate mixed metaphor), the window, and the Queen's "Proclamation".  I paraphrased the story in the Proclamation so that the mattresses from the original story became "Mountains of Quilts" in order to comply with the challenge theme.

I was delighted to win the 3rd Place Ribbon for this challenge and $$$!
