Variations on a Theme of Modigliani

This quilt is being entered in the Leavenworth, WA Quilt Challenge 2013, "Flights of Fantasy".  The use of the "winged" challenge fabric is realized around the smaller birds and the bird mask on a stick.

This quilt has a base of hand-dyed fabric with the large bird having a crazy-quilted body; the smaller birds are made of silk.  The faces are printed on fabric and are by the artist, Amadeo Modigliani, an Italian artist and sculptor,  a favorite of mine.

This quilt is a departure from my usual type of quilt, being rather surreal with a bit of fantasy.

My ongoing love affair with having interesting quilt backs continues.  The back of this quilt has a mini-biography of Modigliani as well as the traditional quiltmaker's label.  See the pictures at the side - although being able to read them may not be achievable.
